First-Ever Cold, Compression System for Traumatic Amputees

Manufacturing Group | February 26, 2013

Game Ready’s line sets a new standard in care for amputee surgery recovery and quality of life.

Game Ready officials announce the launch of a new line of revolutionary wraps designed specifically for patients with amputated limbs. It is the first-ever cold and compression system available for traumatic amputees, which can be used immediately post-op to help speed up the healing process and reduce pain without use of narcotic medications. The wraps decrease crucial time to prosthetic fitting, aid in the reduction of prosthetic fittings and relieve residual limb pain due to continual use of prosthetic devices.

The U.S. Military and the company’s interest in helping to improve the lives of wounded service men and women returning from war were the two leading drivers behind the launch of the Amputee Wrap line. Game Ready had done a significant amount of work with the military, during which time they had received many requests to develop a wrap specifically for traumatic amputees. In looking at the statistics, the company found that 75% of traumatic amputees in the military are below-the-knee amputees, and even outside of the military population, below-the-knee amputees still comprise the largest percentage of amputees in the United States. For this reason, the company is debuting the line with the Below-The-Knee Wrap, and hopes to unveil wraps for above-the-knee and other extremities later this year.

The Below-The-Knee Wrap is ergonomically designed to fit the lower limb best. Game Ready consulted many physicians and orthopedic hospitals to ensure the best fit. The wrap features low profile, circumferential coverage for better surface contact and treatments that are more effective, and is easily adjustable for enhanced comfort. The wrap can also be used with prosthetic shrinkers (sleeves/stockings), so there is no change in procedure that physicians will have to do in order to use this therapy system.

“Since beginning our work with the U.S. Military, we have been channeling our efforts into finding a way to bring our technology to a device that could help traumatic injury patients,” says Craig Grabell, president and CEO, Game Ready. “We are extremely excited to launch this first-of-its-kind amputee wrap line, and are confident that these new wraps will help wounded service men and women accelerate their healing and return to their lives faster.”

The new amputee wraps provide all of the same benefits of the original Game Ready therapy devices, which deliver ACCEL Technology (Active Compression and Cold Exchange Loop) through ergonomic, dual-action wraps. Game Ready’s patented two-chamber design – one for air, one for water – enables the integrated delivery of compression and cold therapy for body parts. ACCEL Technology proactively aids lymphatic function, encourages cellular oxygen supply, and stimulates tissue repair. Game Ready is so effective it is the injury treatment system of choice for thousands of prominent orthopedic and vet clinics, athletic trainers, physical therapy centers, athletes, and teams in nearly every professional sport.
