“How to Mill Titanium Implants and Custom Abutments In-house” Dental Workshop on East and West Coast
DATRON Dynamics Inc. held a dental workshop titled “How to Mill Titanium Implants and Custom Abutments In-house” first at their East Coast Technology Center in New Hampshire and then the following weekend at their new West Coast technology Center in Livermore, Calif. In both instances the dental milling machine manufacturer was joined by dental experts from 3D scanner manufacturer, Imetric and CAM companies Open Mind (hyperDENT) and Sescoi (WorkNC).
The workshop demonstrated the complete process of titanium implant production including initial 3D model scan, CAD/CAM design and 5-axis milling on DATRON’s D5 dental milling machine. Additionally, prospective users from dental labs and milling centers are shown how profitable it can be to bring titanium milling in house. This is done using an R.O.I calculator, plugging in the company’s current or projected implant volume as well as other business model factors.
DATRON’s Dental CAD/CAM Product Manager, Jordan Greenberg states, “A lot of labs are interested in bringing this work in house, but are unsure of exactly what it takes. We show them how the process works and then examine whether it makes sense for them on a case by case basis.”
Since DATRON dental milling technology is an “open system,” they are able to invite competing scanning and CAD/CAM vendors to demonstrate their role in the process.
Greenberg explains, “There is so much dental CAD/CAM technology, the challenge for the user is in the integration. We are able to demonstrate various turn-key solutions and help them determine if one of them will represent a whole new stream of revenue for their company.”
Workshop attendee, Warren Rogers, CEO of Knight Dental Group and NADL past president, elaborates, “The Datron workshop on in-house CAD/CAM solutions is a must see for any dental lab owner that is interested in starting a digital platform with an ideal foundation.”
This particular dental workshop and other similar workshops are held regularly by DATRON at their Technology Centers as well as at some of their customer’s dental labs like Dental Laboratory Group in Staten Island, NY and Imagine Milling in Reston, VA. These workshops have been approved for six hours of scientific continuing education credits by the National Board for Certification in Dental Laboratory Technology (NBC).
