IMTS 2014 Conference: Demystifying 5-Axis Machining

Chicago – Make plans to attend the IMTS 2014 Conferences to learn about Demystifying 5-Axis Machining.

DATE: Thursday, September 11 from 10:00 AM - 10:55 AM   ROOM: W-193B

SPEAKER: Jeff Jaje, Market & Business Development Manager, Sescoi USA

Manufacturers adopt 5-axis machining for different business reasons. Sometimes there is no other way to manufacture a part. Other times, 5-axis is implemented to gain a competitive advantage to 3-axis only programming.

Next, once a manufacturer decides to implement 5-axis machining, they often don’t spend an adequate amount of time researching the best mill and CAM software combination that will provide optimum results for their market. Attention to the fine details in the selection process can have a dramatic result on the success of the 5-aaxis implementation.

With that, this presentation will look into:

• The business drivers for implementing 5-axis machining, even when you believe you can still do all your parts in 3-axis.

• The differences in 5-axis machining per market, ie how 5-axis of aerospace components is different from 5-axis for power generation which is different from 5-axis for molds.

• Tips on choosing a 5-axis mill and 5-axis software, especially in conjunction with your individual market

• When to choose 3-axis, 5-axis positional (3+2) axis machining and 5-axis simultaneous machining.

• What to look for in machine simulation collision checking / avoidance for safe 5-axis machining.

We have seen the adoption of 5-axis machining increasing, yet there are still many on the fence, and many questions out there. This presentation is designed to be mill and software neutral. It is meant to provide useful information in the decision making process before implementing 5-axis machining, and to avoid repeating many of the mistakes early adopters made.

The educational and informative conferences run Sept. 8-11, 2014 in the West Building, Level 1. To register for this or any session, visit www.imts.com/education/imtsconference.html.
