W. L. Gore & Associates, Inc. Receives FDA Approval for Modification of GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis
W. L. Gore & Associates (Gore) has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a manufacturing change to the GORE VIABAHN Endoprosthesis. The modification is a result of the precision laser trimming technology which enables the removal of excess material at the device margin, resulting in a contoured edge. The device is the only stent-graft approved by the FDA for the treatment of patients suffering from Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) in superficial femoral artery (SFA) lesions and iliac artery lesions. In the US alone, as many as 12 million people suffer from PAD.

Small Bone Innovations, Inc. (SBi), an orthopedics company focused exclusively on technologies and treatments for the small bones & joints, announced that it has sold a total of $108 million of Series D Preferred Stock in a series of private equity financings. The most recent of these financings closed in April 2009. The Series D financing is believed to be one of the largest ever private equity capital investments in an orthopedics company.
