Chicago - How the Chipmaker Challenge works
There are two parts to the contest. The first part includes general questions that are located here. Once you finish the general questions below, click "Continue to part 2 (Submit Your Essay).” In order for your submission to be considered, you must complete both Part 1 and Part 2. Part 2 of the application includes your story and why/how you would benefit from winning a Hurco CNC machine. You can complete this second part by writing an essay or making a video – or both!
The applications will be reviewed using a rubric that scores how well each section of the application is answered. Please understand the rubric doesn’t include spelling, grammar, etc., it focuses on how completely you answered the questions.
Additionally, this contest is open to people who plan to start a business. Therefore, you will enter N/A to questions that don't apply (for example, "What were your gross sales last year?), and you must adapt your answers for other questions (for instance, the question that asks: "What products do you manufacture?" you would need to provide what product(s) you plan to manufacture).
After the online application period ends on Aug. 8, 2014, the top five submissions will be identified.
The five finalists must be able to travel to IMTS to appear on the live version of the Hurco Chipmaker Challenge where you will make your pitch and answer questions from the judges during the afternoon of Tues., Sept. 9, 2014.
The judges are not employed by Hurco Companies Inc., but have been identified for their knowledge of manufacturing, entrepreneurism, finance, and/or business.
The winner will be chosen based on the combined score of the judges, plus the vote totals received via social media and online.
The winner will be announced Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at IMTS.
The winner is responsible for the cost of shipping, rigging, and taxes that may be incurred. Consult your tax professional for specific tax ramifications of winning.
In addition to winning your choice of a Hurco VMX42i CNC mill or TM8i CNC lathe, you will win $10,000 worth of Hurco Bucks to be used for tooling, training, or other options/services Hurco provides.
